Marshall RIAT Live Stream

17 July 2020

The Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is an annual event that we eagerly anticipate, where we look forward to meeting our valued customers, and friends, and showcasing our work, good news and innovations. COVID-19 might have made face-to-face interaction impossible this year, but we are determined not to let it stop us creating a buzz and sharing an exciting RIAT Techno Zone experience, nonetheless.

This year we’d like to invite you to the ‘Marshall RIAT Live Stream’, where we will be live streaming a number of events on 17 July. You’ll get the opportunity to chat with our Military Aerospace Managing Director, Duncan Eldridge, as well as our Chief Engineer, Mark Johnston, Chris Botting, our 3-D expert, and meet some of our top young apprentices, including WorldSkills Gold medallist, Haydn Jakes.

We’ll also be sharing the highs and lows of an aerospace business in lockdown, with discussions on wellbeing and other topics, and let’s not forget our ever-popular Marshall Nut & Bolt Challenge!

Until we start the show!!

Welcome to The Show

Meet Your Hosts

Our apprenticeship scheme celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, so it seemed appropriate to give the honour of hosting our ‘Marshall RIAT Live Stream’ to two of our current apprentices, Matthew and James.

Matt Garland

Matt was wowed by the cargo capacity of a transport plane on a visit to RIAT as a 15-year old and that led to an apprenticeship and career in aerospace engineering, so you know what he talks about really comes from the heart.

James Potter

James initially joined our airframe fitter apprenticeship but soon transferred onto the design engineer course, so he knows all about the flexibility of our training, which he’ll happy tell you about.

Our Special Guests

Duncan Eldridge

Duncan loves nothing better than sharing his passion for our business. Our Military Aerospace Managing Director will be welcoming questions on our many capabilities and where he sees the business going in the future, as well as some of the challenges of protecting people in critical situations, including through the pandemic.

Chris Botting

Chris is a leading light in the world of additive manufacturing (3D printing). He’s is a leading figure in the industry and been instrumental in creating some of the unique flight-approved parts that we integrate onto the iconic C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Haydn Jakes

A former Marshall apprentice, who has gone on to show the world what a great apprentice aerospace engineer can achieve. He beat dozens of hopefuls to a coveted gold medal in the World Skills championships in Russia last year and is waiting to share his experiences with you.

Jo Boyd

Jo is our Head of Wellbeing, who’s has been instrumental in keeping our business working optimally during these trying times. She’ll be sharing some of the strategies that she’s employed to see us through.

Mark Johnston

Mark embarked on his apprenticeship after leaving school in the 1980s and has since gone on to become our chief engineer, where he leads on some of our most exciting projects.

Rob Humphries

A former RAF pilot, who also has extensive experience as a leading test pilot. He’s an inspiring mentor, who encourages young people to great heights.

Ben Ellis

One of the standout elements of our apprenticeships is how we get our trainees onto live projects from the outset. Ben will share his story as apprentice at Marshall and some of the opportunities he’s had working on the iconic C-130 platform.

Matthew Harvey

Matthew travels all over the world supporting our many international air forces who operator C-130 aircraft. He’ll be on hand to share his experience and how Marshall supports these international C-130 operators.

Mark Hasted

Mark is our lead test pilot, an unsung hero of our team, with a crucially important job. Why not ask him about how he takes the C-130s through their paces to ensure they’re role-fit after fit-out?
