Radomes of the future

We continue to evolve with the radomes industry to further reduce cost, weight, manufacturing lead times, as well as improving performance by;

Researching new composite materials with the R&D Team

  • In 2019, Marshall invested more than £4 million on R&D and employee training

  • Material characterisation of improved performance through transmission laminates
  • High performance external coatings for improved erosion and wear resistance
  • Lightening protection systems with minimum impact of RF performance
  • Internal development of through transmission modelling capability for broad band and high frequency applications
  • Dedicated product development and Futureworx teams looking into next generation technology for mission systems ISR and future combat air system

Improving our manufacturing processes

  • Marshall invested approximately £7.5 million on the Advanced Composites site and infrastructure improvement to ensure we are fit for future growth to meet the needs of the composites industries and our customers
  • As part of our continuous improvement programme, we also recently won a grant of £900K funded by Sharing in Growth. Sharing in Growth work with UK manufactures to assist with furthering their on-going long-term competitiveness on a global stage

Improving our manufacturing processes

  • An established solution for X band radomes has been developed, tested and is available for immediate deployment
  • Ongoing development in complex laminate architectures to suit latest generation sensors
  • Innovative approaches to material characterisation and certification have been developed to reduce time to market for novel materials
  • Out of autoclave solutions are available for large >2m radomes for low volume – large size radomes
