Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group understand the importance of wellbeing, as it continues to grow in the public consciousness and many societies around the world ramp up efforts to help people realise their potential, cope with the normal stresses of life and work productively.
Tighter restrictions alongside the winter weather can leave us feeling a little isolated, so it’s more important than ever to be mindful of how well we’re looking after ourselves and each other across our business. In the build up to Christmas 2020, we kickstarted an effort to provide support to our incredible employees in the form of our “Stay Winter Warm” campaign.
We provided a full programme of activities to all employees, where we offer a wellbeing boost through a series of links and fun activities to get our heart rates up and to keep physically fit along with more information and ideas for staying positive and looking after our mental health.
We launched the highly successful ‘Great Marshall Bake Off’ in early November last year as part of a month long company-wide competition.
The vital ingredient here was our employees and families who were all involved by sending in new recipes, fun descriptions and amazing pictures of their bakes. Each Monday we provided a brand new theme for the week ahead which included Autumn, Cookies and Biscuits, Muffins and of course for the final week we asked everyone to focus on Christmas.
Through our Intranet site, we asked everyone from the business to vote on their favourite bake each week, giving us four incredible Star Bakers to finish the year.
Just before the Christmas break, we hosted ‘The Great Big Virtual Marshall Quiz’, which saw our teams from around the UK and Canada let out their competitive side in order to take the bragging rights of Marshall Quiz Champions.
Whether working from home or on the front-line in our hangars, employees from across the business had plenty of fun getting dressed up in their favourite festive outfits on Marshall Christmas Jumper Day. Even though many of us weren't able to see our colleagues and friends who we would normally enjoy the day with, we still managed to get together virtually.
It wasn't only a chance to have some fun, but an opportunity to raise money and support the incredible life-saving work of The Magpas Air Ambulance, where we raised over £300.
As we move further into 2021 and lockdown 3.0 is upon us, we will be providing more key events and resources to help our workforce get through the winter months.
These include: Company-wide Virtual Escape Rooms; Mini competitions with prizes up for grabs, such as our photo caption contest; Weekly lunch time drop in sessions for those working at home; Resource guides for managers with fun traditional games that teams can easily play together. Have you ever tried online Pictionary?; Health & Wellbeing articles and resources.
These are just some of the important steps that we’re taking to make sure we all stay winter warm.
